Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Let's travel to: Maui, Hawaii

Picture waking up at the crack of dawn and looking out your plane window and seeing vast dark blue oceanic waters pushing gently against lush green crop and palm trees, topped with a warm pink-orange sky dotted with marshmallow-like clouds. You have arrived in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Maui may be overshadowed by its popular neighbouring Island, Honolulu, but it is filled with hidden gems. The Hana Highway is a famous destination, also known as the “road to heaven”. Get ready for some insta-worthy sunsets, mouth-watering fresh seafood, and endless beaches while sipping on some Mai Tai’s

Useful Information

  • Best time to go: over winter break, the weather in Hawaii is warm yet not too hot
    • Not as busy at the summer months
  • Suggested Route: Land in Kihei - Hana highway drive to Haleakala - Kaanapali
  • Rent a car for the duration of your stay, that is the easiest way to get around
  • Bring a go pro because there is plenty of opportunity for underwater shots
  • Most hotels have a concierge that can help you book trips

Key Activities

  • Snorkelling near the Molokini crater + Sea Turtle watching
  • Learn how to surf! Good instructors and less tourists in Maui
    • Honolulu is too metropolitan to learn how to surf properly
  • Tree-top zip lining in Kihei
  • Venture onto the Hana highway adventure if you're brave enough
    • 103.6km highway around a part of the island
    • The road is quite windy so many get carsick before they even hit the 25km mark
    • There are rough roads at one point so make sure your rental car can withstand it
    • It’s the “road to heaven” because you are literally driving in the clouds at one point
    • The rest of the journey is on foot, leading to Haleakala, a massive dormant volcano
  • A Lu’au is a traditional Hawaiian party consisting of an extensive feast accompanied by performances
    • Offered by certain resorts and local entertainment

Local Food Suggestions

  • Spam Musubi is a local favourite that you can get at any gas station
    • Japanese snack: rice and spam wrapped in seaweed
  • Eat a lot of seafood and fruits
  • Enjoy lots of Mai Tai! Usually made with fresh guava, pineapple, orange, and passion fruit
  • Personal favourite restaurant:
    • Fu-Lin Chinese Restaurant (1312 Front St, Lahaina, HI)
    • Authentic, popular spot
    • Amazing view of sunset and yachts right outside the restaurant
    • Short drive from the Hyatt

Resorts/Hotels

  • Maui Coast Hotel (in Kihei)
    • Located right by the ocean with easy beach access
    • Best breakfast ever on outdoor patio
    • Spend a day just tanning, reading by the beach, and getting chased by huge waves
    • Outdoor pool and hot tub
  • Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa (In Kaanapali/Lahaina)
    • One of the top resorts in Maui
    • Beautiful complimentary purple flower garlands (Lei’s) when you check in
    • Amazing animals like penguins reside by the indoor pond and pink flamingos flock around in the outdoor gardens
    • Many museum artifacts displayed all over the hotel
    • Spend one night just taking a stroll around the property and sipping on some drinks
    • The Lu’au offered in the hotel and it is definitely something you do not want to miss!
    • Huge pools and lazy river leading into a manmade cave

From feeding baby tigers in Thailand at 4 years to paragliding in Vancouver at 17 years and getting spontaneous tattoos in Barcelona at 19 years, I would like to say I’ve done it all. But there are so many more adventures waiting for me. I love food wherever I ago, so come find me munching away at some good pizza by the beaches of Cinque-Terre! Instagram: @Helentiffanyc
