  • The island of Ireland has two divisions: The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (U.K.)
    • Must cross a border between the two countries
  • Language: English and Gaelic 
  • Currency: Republic of Ireland: euro; Northern Ireland: pound
  • Transportation: the best way to get around, on your own time, is to rent a car
    • Roads are narrow, so rent the smallest car you can
    • Manual cars are cheaper to rent than automatic cars
    • You will need a valid license and credit card to rent 
  • Weather: it can be unpredictable, with temperatures averaging in the 50s and rain often

County Cork

    • Best time to go is from September to November

County Kerry

  • Killarney National Park
    • There are many must-see sights inside the park, like Torc Waterfall, Ross Castle,
      Innisfallen Island, and Muckross Abbey
      • Torc Waterfall- can get busy and congested during summer months, but
        worth visiting
      • Ross Castle- the castle was built by O'Donoghue Mór in the 15th
        century. It is said that you can still catch a glimpse of O’Donoghue and his
        horse rise from the lake.
      • Innisfallen Island- a major source of Irish history.  Boat trips to the island
        leave from the Ross Castle area from Ross and Reen piers.
      • Muckross Abbey- founded for the Observatine Franciscans in about 1448
  • Skellig Michael
    • Located 12km off the coast of Co. Kerry
    • Both landing and boat tours available, but most reserve spot with private boat company months in advance for spot. (180 people are allowed on the island each day)
    • UNESCO World Heritage Site
    • Filming location for Star Wars Episodes VII and VIII
  • Ring of Kerry
    • Bike or drive 
    • Most popular drives in Ireland
    • Many must-see sights in County Kerry can easily be found along the Ring of Kerry
  • Dingle
    • Inch and Coumeenoole beaches

    • Hop on a boat tour to try to spot Fungie, the famous dolphin of Dingle
